This weekend was Gabriel’s second birthday, and we had a party with family and a couple of Gabe’s playdate friends. I was super smart this year in not cooking any food other than baking the cupcakes. We ordered a bunch of party trays from Chick-Fil-A, and that was probably the best idea I’ve had in a long time. It took off most of the stress for party prep in the morning. Although I’m not sure why I bothered to try to clean the house. My parents and sister brought in three extra dogs, so you couldn’t even tell I vacuumed after a couple of hours. Gabriel received a bunch of Elmo DVDs and books, so now I won’t be watching the same four DVDs every day. My sister also got him a Tickle Me Elmo (I’m having horrible college flashbacks) and an Elmo microphone that sings a bunch of Elmo songs. He really likes the microphone, but he didn’t warm up to the Tickle Me Elmo until today. His friend Cooper, though, loved the Tickle Me Elmo. I may have to buy him one for Christmas, even though that would possibly enrage his mother.
Everyone left this morning and the house is quiet and I am TIRED. Shawn also left for Hawaii this morning (poor guy) for a week, so the tiredness won’t be leaving me anytime soon. The dogs, however, have no real responsibilities so they have been snoring away since the last visiting dog left. I bet they’ll sleep all day today and tomorrow. At least I have a total geekfest to look forward to this weekend! I haven’t been to A-kon in nearly three years because I went into labor for one con and then the following con was Gabe’s birthday party. I would have been quite sad if he ended up taking over that weekend every year. And best of all, Rin is coming in town for the con!
But A-kon is a rehearsal for E3, which is just a week after! I got my press pass this week in the mail and it made my day. I’m going to frame it when I get home and hang it next to every other geeky thing I have in my office.
After E3, there is no more stalling. I need to get my butt in gear and crank out that novel. I said I’d wait until Gabe turned 2, and E3 is just an excuse to put it off a couple more weeks. It’s a good excuse, but it’s still an excuse.
