The first week of 2011 wasn’t so hot, I admit, due to getting sick, developing pink eye, and contracting some other unpleasant personal crap all while Shawn was out of town. I was beginning to think I was getting my humbling penance from having such a great 2010. Fortunately, it seems that it was just another case of “Shawn is out of town, so Keri’s world must instantly fall apart.” I swear Shawn has a deal with God to make this happen every time so that I’ll always feel like I need him or something. I have no proof, but as soon as I do, I’m having a long talk with both of them.
This past week pretty much blew the hell of last week under the rug. It started on Monday with some proof that not only do I know what I’m doing with my job, I’m doing it really, really well, thus granting me a few more months of job security. Then on Tuesday, I got some of the best news ever. My sister called to say that Madie had a big check-up with her neurologist, and she was declared to be 100% cerebral palsy free! Not only that, but he said that she has a 0% chance of developing it later. This was one of the biggest scares Lisa and Joe were facing after it was certain Madie would survive. There’s still the possibility of slowed speech and physical development, but I don’t think either one bothers them at this point. To be honest, the rest of my week could have fallen flat on its face and I wouldn’t have cared after hearing that news. I could not be happier for Lisa and Joe.
The final bit of good news is that I traded in my Lexus for a Toyota 4Runner, and I’m thrilled with that decision. I have so much more space, it’s easier to get Gabe in and out of the car, and I’m out of under a lease. There are so many good things about leasing a car, but the downsides were a little much for me at times. It’s a bigger pain that you would think to not be the owner of a vehicle. I was also very fortunate that I leased a luxury vehicle, so it wasn’t hard to trade it in and walk away scott free. No more leases for me, thank you.
Hopefully these are all signs that 2011 will be another great year. If I keep with my pattern, things should be good until 2013. Things always seem to fall to crap on a -3 year.
