Extra Life is a fundraiser for charity, where participants play video games for 25 hours to raise money for local children’s hospitals. I’ve always been a fan of the charity, and I have donated to friends in the past, but I’ve never joined in because I always knew I couldn’t game that long for whatever reason. So believe it or not, even though I have a brand new baby, I’m going to participate in this year’s Extra Life fundraiser.
Obviously I’m not going to be able to game 25 hours straight. I do have to feed little Zack and I have to sleep a little myself, especially considering I rarely sleep these days. So I am going to break this up in 12-13 hour chunks over the weekend of November 2nd. Shawn is being incredibly supportive of me in this endeavor, but we’ll see if he lets me do this again next year.
My beneficiary hospital is the Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, and my goal, as this is my first year, is to raise $200. But that’s really my bare minimum. I would love to raise $500 for the children at this hospital.
I will be calling on all my friends, real life and online, to donate a little something to this worthy cause. I have a widget in the sidebar to the right to show my progress with a handy link to donate. I’m doing this with my podcasting friends as well, and even though I obviously can’t be in Iowa with all of them to be part of their livestream, they plan to Skype me in. I’ll let all donors know where they can watch us all be idiots playing games. Donors can even vote on what I’ll be playing from my backlog. I figure this is the perfect time to clear out a bit of my stack of shame.
Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, everyone, and prepare to get a little annoyed over social media as I beg every now and then for donations!
