In just a little over two weeks, I’ll be participating in another Extra Life charity marathon for children’s hospitals. I’m supporting the Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, and so far I’ve raised $250 for this fantastic hospital. One hundred percent of all donations will go to the Children’s Medical Center, and the only thing I get in return is satisfaction of reaching my goal and losing sleep in the name of fundraising for kids.
I’m not running a marathon, but I am staying awake for 24 hours straight to play video games the entire time. I know that it sounds ten times easier than training for a marathon, but it’s honestly very taxing. It’s harder than you think to stay awake that long and play video games, even video games that I like, especially since I’m not allowed to have any caffeine whatsoever. I do it, though, because I really believe in this cause 100%. I love how gamers around the world unite for one day to raise money for children’s hospitals. I wish that gamers could do this kind of awesome stuff all the time.
My goal is $500, and I’m halfway there. I’m pretty confident I can make the full goal by the time of the marathon.
My fantastic gaming friend Jen is coming in town to do the marathon with me. We’re going to help one another stay awake with punch drunk humor and laughing at the choices we make in Dragon Age Inquisition. I think that’s on the table for both of us to play. I also plan to play some Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and Chris and I are going to try to set up some Mortal Kombat X time. I have a feeling that that will mostly be Chris beating my ass for an hour, but it will still be fun. I’m also going to stream it all through my Twitch channel.
I do have some giveaways planned to help entice donations. For strategy guide fans, donate $25 and you’ll be in a drawing for a strategy guide of your choice. All you have to do to be entered in the drawing is comment with the donation which strategy guide you want (no collector’s editions please…don’t be greedy). I also have an extra copy of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate for the PlayStation 4 to give away with a $25 donation. The game releases this Friday, October 23rd for $60, so you’ll be theoretically getting it for less than half the retail price.
If you want to tell me what to play, I have a list of games on my Extra Life campaign page that you can tell me to play for at least 30 minutes for a measly $5 donation.
The important thing is to give, but it’s nice knowing that you can get something out of it, as well as the tax deduction. Oh right, you know it’s 100% tax deductible, right?
I know it’s hard, especially since everyone seems to have their hands for something or another these days, whether it’s a gofundme for medical bills, patreon for business, or someone’s kids’ candy for some organization. Hey, just a couple of weeks ago I was asking people to buy popcorn from my eldest for Cub Scouts. I know firsthand how it’s always something. However, I’m still asking for two reasons: 1) because I really believe in this and 2) I have so much fun. I admit it, it’s a blast doing this.
I have a link on the sidebar to my profile page, but you can click here as well. I greatly appreciate every single donation from the bottom of my heart, and I hope I can repay the favor someday with donating to a cause that’s near and dear to you.
